Dassault-Breguet ATLANTIC 1 MPA
For over 30 years the Breguet Atlantic weapons system has been in the front line of maritime surveillance patrol. This 12 seat maritime surveillance aircraft as offers an outstanding range (7,970 km) and a long period of time in the target area. It is used for a variety of missions such as anti-ship combat, reconnaissance, search and rescue and supply flights, but it was originally designed for anti-submarine defence. The Atlantic was also the first military aircraft that was a multinational project from drawing board to production. After its first flight on 21 October 1961, the first examples were delivered to France and Germany in December 1965. The French naval air service received 40 planes split between 3 squadrons, while the 20 German Atlantics went into service with MFG 3 at Nordholz. The Dutch naval air service used 9 Atlantics in 321 squadron and the Italian navy received a total of 18. For anti-submarine service the Atlantic was fitted with American avionics, while the Thomson-CSF search radar was supplied in France. With a total flying time of nearly 18 hours the Atlantic can patrol a very large sea area and attack enemy targets with torpedoes that are housed in a weapons bay in the underside of the fuselage which in not pressurized. In recent years the Atlantic has been continually adapted to new requirements.
