The Road to St Vith

The Road to St Vith - Andy Bloom
My project; “The Road to St Vith”; portrays an SdKfz 182 Königstiger tank assigned 2/Kompanie, Schwere Panzer Abteilung 506 (sPzAbt 506) supporting the Grenadier-Regiment 294 (18.Volks-Grenadier Division) just outside Andler, Belgium. The s.Pz.Abt. 506 were the only Heer King Tiger unit to be engaged in the Ardennes Offense of December 1944 – Wacht am Rhein.

The King Tiger was straight from Dragon’s 1/35 Sd. Kfz. 182 Kingtiger (Battle of Bulge) kit #6232 except I added zimmerit from Eduard’s Zimmerit King Tiger Henschel kit #35699.

Of the sixteen figures; four came with Dragon’s Kingtiger kit other four from Dragon’s German Combat Unit, Ardennes 1944/45 kit #6002, four from Academy Models WW-II German Infantry '44 kit #1377 and the tank figures came from MiniArt Models German Tank Crew Winter '43-'45 kit #35021.

Archer provided the dry transfers for the German turret numbers (Red-White Outline) and BalkenKruz.

The barbed wire fence was scratch built after reading an article on barbed wire by Martin Wasiak from Massachusetts, USA.

As for the base; I used CelluClay for the foundation along with folk-art acrylics paints for the coloring.

Anyway the project took about eight months – my figure painting is getting there, but always room for improvement.
