ARNHEM, SEPT 1944

ARNHEM, SEPT 1944 - ONSOP
This diorama depicts the aftermath of the bloody battle at Arnhem, The Netherlands in September 1944. Montgomery's "Operation Market Garden" was a total disaster and the British 1st Airborne Division bore the brunt of the fiasco. Many paratroopers were either killed, captured or MIA.

The diorama was built on a 11" x 12" wooden base in 1/35 scale. The vehicle is a Tamiya 1/35 scale Sturmgeschutz (Stug) IV Sdkfz. 163 fully weathered to give a battered look. The figures are mostly Dragon DML models except for the British paratroopers which came from ESCI-Italeri and Tamiya (converted) kits. The Stug IV commander is also Tamiya. The structures were all scratch-built except the lamp post which came from a Tamiya kit.

NICE WORK (September 10, 2007) - JACK COLE
Nice job. You should have made it on a bigger base. Hope to see more of your works next time. Keep up the good work.

Good Job (October 7, 2007) - Daniel Bernadina
Not to nitpick, but myself being a Netherlander, i would like to point out that it's actually Arnhem, The Netherlands, not Holland, that name is not for our country, but just for 2 provinces (north and south Holland), apart from that a very nice modeling job and keep going :)

JUST GREAT!! (November 2, 2007) - Adrian Munoz
One of the most beautiful works I have seen in diorama galleries in the internet. I am a modeller too from Argentina and I met several Arnhem Waffen SS veterans and your diorama portrays what they have narrated to me. Please post some more of your works and you got talent. Muy bien, amigo.

Question please (November 3, 2007) - omar
Hi!
Beautiful diorama. How do you make the uniform not too shiny? I applied clear flat but the image turned white like you dip in milk. Please help. Thank you.

THANKS FOR YOUR COMMENTS (November 4, 2007) - ONSOP
Thank you for those comments and I appreciate it very much.

1. Daniel, your correction is most welcome. I corrected the information already. Thanks.

2. Omar, I use water based or lacquer based acrylics to make my models look flat. Enamels have the tendency to be shiny when you highlight/shade your models especially during blending. And most important, do not touch the painted parts or you will accidentally buff your models.

3. More dioramas are forthcoming once I find time to finish them.

THANKS AGAIN FOR YOUR COMMENTS (November 4, 2008) - ONSOP
GEE! I AM DEEPLY OVERWHELMED BY THE LARGE VOLUME OF COMMENTS. I DIDNT KNOW THAT "ORCS" NOW KNOW HOW TO SURF THE INTERNET. I WISH I COULD FIND A TRANSLATION WEBSITE ON THE "ORC" LANGUAGE SO I CAN UNDERSTAND THEIR COMMENTS. NICE TRY FELLAS.
